Instead, a charming light raspberry perfume, all in finesse. There is that tensile thread here, that speaks of high quality, in this fine and understated wine with impressive persistence. "A cooler and ultra-pure if restrained nose somewhat grudgingly reveals its combination of lemon rind, exotic Asian-style tea, mineral reduction and pretty floral nuances. The mouthfeel of the almost painfully intense medium-bodied flavors is super-sleek, indeed the word sophisticated comes to mind, while delivering outstanding length on the youthfully austere, delineated and impeccably well-balanced finale. This too needs to develop better depth but with a potential development curve of a decade plus; the challenge is to just be patient." - Sweet Spot Outstanding, Burghound ---- "Mid yellow, beautiful sunshine on orchard fruit style of nose. Ripe but just to the perfect degree. This is a wine of exceptional beauty, a little more flesh, all about the fruit, less evidently limestone until right at the end where a little touch helps define the finish. There is impressive richness to the opulent and generous medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with sappy dry extract while delivering excellent length on the compact, serious and powerful finish. This is a typical Morgeot of power and richness though without the usual rusticity." - Burghound

Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru ---- "Here too there is just enough wood to merit pointing out framing the fresh and airy aromas of white flower, pear, apple and discreet spice wisps. There is even better volume to the caressing and enveloping medium weight plus flavors that possess focused power on the impressively long and very dry finale. This is a wine that should repay 6 to 8 years of keeping." - Burghound

2022  Chassagne-Montrachet

Archaeological findings confirm the ancient village of Chassagne used to be occupied by a Roman society. The Romans planted the vines and built the city, hence the name "Romanée." From a 0.81 hectare parcel of vines planted in 1957 at a higher altitude of Chassagne, protected from the north wind by a stand of trees. Aged 15 months in 228 and 350 L oak barrels, 35% new. ---- "Here too there is the barest suggestion of the exotic lurking in the background of more floral-suffused aromas of Granny Smith apple, spice and a similar hint of wet stone. The middleweight flavors are not as concentrated but they are noticeably finer, particularly on the overtly stony, chiseled, youthfully austere and superbly long finale. This excellent effort will also need to develop more depth but that should merely be a matter of exercising a bit of patience." - Sweet Spot Outstanding, Burghound ---- "Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet shows an extra degree of ripe fruit, and a little less the limestone freshness of Caillerets. This is more backward, with an additional intensity, significantly so. "Here the nose is displaying some post-bottling reduction so give it some air if you're going to try a bottle young. More interesting are the succulent and round yet decidedly powerful medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract that helps to buffer the notably firmer tannic spine shaping the lengthy finish. This is also quite good though note that it will need at least a few years of keeping first." - 91pts/Outstanding, Burghound ---- "Just a little bit more intense in purple but not much. The fruit is balanced and at the perfect pitch of ripeness. Much more powerful on the palate with some black cherry notes as well as a little red fruit, mix of tannins and acidity, neither too prominent. More appealing are the gorgeously textured and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also buffers the moderately tightly wound finish where a touch of austerity slowly emerges. This pretty effort could use better depth but a few years of bottle aging should be helpful." - Outstanding, Burghound

The rich and solidly concentrated medium-bodied flavors exhibit better depth and length on the moderately rustic finale that is notably more tightly wound. This is a good Chassagne villages that should drink well after only a year or two of keeping yet repay 5 to 8." - Burghound
